NIGHT
QUEEN
Night
Queen is a one-time gift from the earth you won’t want
to miss out on.
I
was blessed last year with the opportunity to purchase a small
amount of this uniquely rare essential oil from a most wonderful
and reliable source.
I blended the
Night Queen oil with other beautiful and unique oils including
sustainably grown sandalwood from Vanuatu, jasmine, ylang ylang
and ambrette seed to create a heart opening, grounding blend
of exquisitely high vibration. Vibrational qualities aside,
this is a lovely perfume which can be enjoyed by both women
and men.
The botanical name for Queen
of the Night is cestrum nocturnum and called Raat Ki Rani in
India. This plant grows in several subtropical areas. The essential
oil I used for this blend came from deep southern India.
The plant is an evergreen, woody shrub with slender tubular
flowers which open at night. The flowers are strongly
scented and the essential oil produced from these flowers is
a rich, sweet, fruity, honeyed, spicy aroma. The plant
itself is not so uncommon but a good quality essential oil from
these flowers is a rare gift.
Delicate flowers are picked as soon as they open and in the
case of essential oils, are distilled as soon as possible.
The farmers hang lights in the trees and local villagers are
hired to harvest the flowers and work through the distillation
process. There is a mysterious quality about flowers that
bloom at night, producing such an exotic scent and yet can’t
be seen in the darkness. To add to the mystery, the scent
of these flowers is said to attract cobras. Many villagers
prefer not to work at night and especially when accompanied
by cobras! As a result, the few projects undertaken over
the years to produce this essential oil have been abandoned
as too labor intensive and not cost effective.
